In order to awaken the people, It is the woman who has to be awakened. Once she is on the move, the household moves, the village moves and the country moves, and through the women, its children are Brought in to the picture and given the opportunity of a healtheir life and better training. Thus through the children of today we build the India tomorrow.
As a majority of human kind, women clearly comprise the largest group in the world. Women constitute the only group which is treated unequally as a whole but whose members live in greater intimacy with their oppressors than with each other. (Chage -1977)
Women’s social, economic and political status is lower than that of men in all countries be it USA, Russia, UK, India or China. Their social status in a given society depends upon the particular role assigned to women and the social attitudes towards that role. It is true that women do enjoy better position in some societies than in some others.
Why have women occupied a subordinate position in society? How can the variations of this subordination be explained ?
